ECU Remapping services nationwide NZECU Remapping & Chip Tuning

ECU Remapping & Chip Tuning Services are available nationwide across New Zealand by our dealer network. Modern engines are managed by a complex network of interconnected components and sensors that manage everything from injector duration, injection timing, turbo boost, common rail pressure, ignition timing and the idling speed of your engine. Professional car and diesel 4x4 tuning services ensure you vehicle delivers the best perfromance for NZ conditions.

At the heart of these complex systems sits the ECU or engine control unit; a palm-sized metal box that contains the software programme (map) that tells your engine how to behave in response to inputs from the numerous sensors in your vehicle.

When vehicle manufacturers ship new cars, they typically load the ECUs with conservative maps to ensure their vehicles perform in a variety of very different environments. For example; Mercedes Benz tuning need to ensure their latest released E-Class works equally well on the fast Autobahns in Germany, the slow congested roads in India, the winding subtropical foothills in Thailand, the extreme conditions in the Middle East, the ice and freezing cold conditions in Finland, the widely varying conditions in the USA, but also in the moderate conditions and roads across Australia and New Zealand.

Manufacturers must also make provision in their ECU tunes for customers who won’t service their vehicles regularly, and for countries that have lower quality fuel. It’s easy to see that compromises need to be made in order to cater for such a wide range of conditions - which is why the OEM factories need to restrict performance and impose limitations on engine capabilities.

By creating a new map and reprogramming your ECU for local conditions, we can unlock your engine’s full safe potential – adjusting settings to unlock previously inaccessible reserves of power, torque, engine response, and in some cases improve fuel economy to enable your vehicle to perform as well as it possibly can.

Chip Tuning Services available nationwide New ZealandECU Remapping is the modern day version of Chip tuning. Chip tuning required the removal of the ECU from a vehicle, opening it up and then loading a new program into the Eprom or chip on the bench – or remapping the Eprom. Chip tuning has become less prevalent in the market place now as technology has advanced enabling remapping to be done via the OBD port. Whilst they are essentially the same thing, OBD port remapping is far less intrusive and requires no removal or opening of the ECU.

Here at Eurotune; the software and interfaces we use to modify parameters in ECU’s is provided by the world’s best and largest supplier based out of Italy. To use a computer example, this is the equivalent of using Microsoft Windows 10 or Mac OS platforms vs using a platform developed by a small time operator who thinks they can “out Google - Google”, or a copied counterfeit system out of Asia and Eastern Europe.

The modifications to the ECU parameters have been developed right here in New Zealand on a dyno. This enables us to take into account Australia and New Zealand specification vehicles, local fuel quality, typical terrain, the load carrying and towing duties that many other countries don't have, along with our lower than speed limits to provide the best blend of performance improvements. i.e. More Power – More Torque – More Response – Less Fuel.

We are continually developing tunes for new vehicles as the manufacturers launch them. If you’d like to see the performance that Eurotune we can unleash from your vehicle, just click HERE.

When we develop the vehicle specific tunes using our software and dyno, we are adjusting a large number of parameters to get the appropriate Air Fuel Ratio (AFR), Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT), Boost Pressure (PSI), Injector Timing, Injector Duration and Rail Pressure referencing Internationally accepted norms to ensure the engine performs at its best, but within safe and reliable parameters. We’ll explain these sometimes confusing industry acronyms below.

Air Fuel Ratio (AFR)

Tuning to the optimum AFR ensures the engine isn’t running a “too lean” or “too rich” fuel mixture. This is important for engine and drivetrain reliability, fuel consumption, and ensuring compliance with various emission regulations.

Boost Pressure (PSI)

It is important that the optimum boost pressure which is measured in pounds per square inch or PSI; is used and that it is controlled to ensure that there are no spikes or dips to preserve turbo charger life. A spike in boost delivery can cause over-boosting which can pressurise the compressor to a level beyond its tolerance.

Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT)

When increasing the fuelling and boost pressure to an engine, it increases the EGT. It is important that crucial limits aren’t surpassed to ensure engine longevity. EGT is also a good tool to measure to the efficiency of upgraded intercoolers and aftermarket larger diameter exhausts.

Injector Duty Cycle (IDC)

On some of the latest vehicles; injectors come from the factory with close to 100% IDC meaning there is little room for further modification without upgrading the injectors - this is rare however. If this occurs in a turbo application, and the boost pressure is raised, due to there being no additional fuel available it would cause the engine to run lean and potentially damage pistons. We like to see a maximum of 80% IDC to ensure there is always headroom and that components aren’t maxed out.

Common Rail Pressure (CRP)

Modern turbocharged diesel engines use a common rail system for injection and runs at pressures around 2,000 Bar or 29,000 psi. We can increase the rail pressure in most diesel engines by a small amount which provides better response and in many cases improved fuel economy by up to 10%.

Benefits for Diesel Turbocharged Vehicles

Turbocharged diesel engines offer magnificent potential for reliable tuning without removing any of the appeal of owning one of these vehicles such as economy, reliability and longevity.

After your Eurotune ECU remap you will enjoy:

  • Increased horsepower
  • Increased torque
  • Better throttle response
  • Smoother power delivery
  • Improved fuel economy
  • Safer overtaking

Benefits for Turbocharged Petrol Engines

Turbocharged petrol engines have higher power and torque output than non-turbocharged power-plants with similar displacement and are usually fitted to the manufacturer's premium models. However, they can perform even better after remapping as the ECU also controls the turbo boost pressure.

After your Eurotune ECU remap, you will enjoy:

  • Increased horsepower
  • Increased torque
  • Better throttle response
  • Smoother power delivery
  • Safer overtaking

Tuning Options

Even though remapping your ECU can enable significant gains in power and torque, we always tune to safe and reliable limits. The original map that we read from your ECU is backed up on a dedicated server allowing the vehicle to be reverted back to the original OEM map at any point in the future if you so desire.

Before carrying out any remapping we carry out a full diagnostic health check to ensure the vehicle is in the correct state of health and no current engine issues are present. We believe that driveability and reliability are as important as performance; so when you choose Eurotune you can relax knowing that your  vehicle is in safe professional hands.
